Communication through Herbs, 2012.

Nature, the countryside and everything built around a certain locality is its surrounding.
When I moved away from the tall buildings and skyscrapers to the east side of the city, where family houses dominated, I have found myself in completely new surroundings.
After a while I wanted to conceive my own way of communication with the new ambience and the people living in it. I’ve noticed that in front of every front door there is a small well-decorated garden.
Motivated by it, I’ve started to plant herbs and flowers on my balcony. I have raised the pots from the ground and wrapped them into colorful fabrics so that people passing by could easily notice them.
When the seeds started to grow I have also started writing interesting pieces of information about the plants in chalk on the street.
For example: “Coriander has sprouted. Tea from its seeds has medicinal properties. I am still waiting for rosemary, thyme and basil to shoot up.”

Children were the first to notice my activity on the street, some of them joining me, drawing in colored chalk further down the street. The highlight of the action happend when the plants grow enough for me to replant them in new pots, leaving them in front of every neighbors door.
As a way of documentation I chose digital camera and 8mm film, which I used to capture the procedure of seed planting, decorations of the pots and growth of the seed.
In the end, I am left with not only an aesthetically pleasing picture, but with the entire organic process inscribed on the film emulsion.

Mercury- Communication, 2011.

Title: Communication
Technique: 16mm film
Year: 2012

The 16mm film Communication came into existence as a part of the omnibus of films called Planets.
The film deals with the planet Mercury symbolizing communication in astrology.
I am trying to discover meanings of the word communication.
Today we are surrounded by many forms of communication. The media often use slogans, wordplay and figures of speech to sell their products successfully. Provoked by the media, I started noting old folk sayings and adapting them for today’s society. For example, the saying: ”You’re missing five to make six” I have changed into:
”You’re missing six to make five”, and from saying: ”What you find don’t tell, what you lose don’t seek” I have changed into ” What you find don’t tell, what you lose, steal”.
One of the main character in this short expressive film is my dog.
The dog symbolizes the relationships between humans and animals and with the film I have tried to note down the warmth of the aura appearing around human-dog friendship.
